First Successful Laser Interstitial Thermal Therapy (LITT) for Drug-Resistant Epilepsy at Beijing Tiantan Puhua Hospital

On August 11, Beijing Tiantan Puhua Hospital successfully completed its first Magnetic Resonance-guided Laser Interstitial Thermal Therapy (MRgLITT) for a patient with drug-resistant epilepsy.

The procedure was performed by the hospital's experienced neurosurgical team using advanced MRI technology to precisely target and ablate the epileptogenic focus. The patient experienced minimal discomfort during the procedure and was discharged the following day, resuming normal activities shortly thereafter.

MRgLITT is a minimally invasive alternative to traditional open surgery, offering several advantages:

  • Precision: Real-time MRI guidance allows for accurate targeting of the epileptogenic tissue.
  • Minimized Risk: Smaller incisions reduce the risk of complications.
  • Faster Recovery: Patients often experience shorter hospital stays and quicker return to daily activities.

This successful application of MRgLITT underscores Beijing Tiantan Puhua Hospital's commitment to adopting cutting-edge medical technologies to improve patient outcomes. The hospital plans to expand the use of this technique to benefit more patients with drug-resistant epilepsy.
